Hornet is the UK educational premier internet provider. It is 100% operated and owned by The University of Manchester and provides high speed Internet services to managed halls of residences and student accommodation.
Hornet and INUK have partnered to offer HornetPLUS Broadband service to students and student landlords within the Manchester area.
The system provides subscribers with a High Speed, always-on, un-metered Internet access. Unlike other commercial operators there is no cap on the traffic to the end user and the bandwidth is dedicated to each end user. The subscriber pays a monthly or yearly cost and then have direct access to the Internet at speeds of upto 16Mbps*, a huge advantage of HornetPLUS is that the users have a 16Mbps* connection with no capping of downloads, unlike other broadband provider which implement capped monthly usage.
Hornet subscribers can do anything over their Internet connection that they can do with any other type of Internet connection - only a lot quicker!
- Wireless Router: Each property is provided with a wireless router and firewall. This gives you the option to provide internet services of speeds up to 16 Mbps. If you're moving into a Manchester Student Homes let property which is HornetPLUS ready, all you do as a tenant is select and pay for the HornetPLUS broadband package best suited to your needs.
- Free Telephone Calls: All calls to other HornetPLUS users are free. Soon students will even be able to dial University extension numbers, so they can stay in touch with staff and friends on-campus. To make outbound calls to other standard landlines or mobiles, you just needs charge your individual account with a credit/debit or calling card.
- Free Television: You automatically get up to 25 channels free of cost. You then have the option of upgrading to other pay channels at their own cost.
