What other charges are there, on top of the cost of an access package?
None. The cost of telephone line rental and broadband are covered by your landlord, so the only cost to you is the price of whichever internet access package you decide to purchase.

How many accounts can a single Wifi Hotzone hotspot support?
There is no limit to the number of accounts that can be created through a hotspot, or to the number of accounts that can used to surf the internet through a hotspot at any one time. However the speed you will get will depend on the number of other users connected and what they are doing (web surfing/ emailing, using Skype, iPlayer etc), and may be slower than if youre connected to the hotspot alone.

Am I guaranteed 2Mbps speeds?
While a number of factors will affect the speed you receive, our network is designed to give everyone equal access to the internet. The bandwidth you receive is protected against other users maxing out your bandwidth by using high-bandwidth services like iPlayer, Skype and peer-to-peer networking, and as such you will be more likely to receive the speeds advertised than on a normal shared broadband line.

Do I get the same benefits at another Wifi Hotzone location as I do at home?
Yes. Connecting to another WiFi Hotzone location while out and about gives you exactly the same benefits as surfing at home; unlimited uploads and downloads (depending on package purchased) and up to 2Mbps speeds, for no additional cost.

Can I use a games console?
The access point is compatible with XBox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii consoles. For detailed instructions on how to connect, please consult your consoles user manual.

Can I share an account between my games console, my PC, my mobile phone, etc?
You can set up multiple devices use the same account on each, but your account cannot be used with more than two devices at any one time. If you attempt to connect a third device while two others are using your account, the first device will be kicked off your account to make room for the new device. Please be aware that you are responsible for all activity on your account, and any legal issues that may arise from such activity.

Will the integrated firewall mess up my games, can I turn it off?
You cannot turn it off, but no ports are restricted, and will not affect your access. Other broadband providers may impose access restrictions that we have no control over.

What if the WiFi signal is weak in my room?
When the engineer installs your access point, he or she will make efforts to ensure that all rooms have the best signal quality possible.
Our access points have strong signal quality, but if you do not have an acceptable signal, we can recommend the purchase of a booster hotspot from www.diyhotspot.com which is fully compatible with the hornetPLUS system.

My housemate is downloading movies, music or other copyrighted material. Am I liable for anything he or she downloads?
Wifi Hotzone logs all user activity against their account, and therefore any illegal activity can be traced to a specific person. You are not responsible for any activity by other users.

Landlord FAQs
What does my £150 installation fee get me?
You will receive a Wifi Hotzone access point (or combined router and access point, if you take our line rental and broadband package), professionally installed by one of our engineers to ensure each of your tenants receive the best possible wireless signal.

My property does not currently have a telephone line. Can you arrange for one to be installed?
Yes, we can arrange for a BT phone line to be installed, for £100 inc VAT - saving £24.99 on the standard BT price of installation.

Can you arrange line rental?
You may use your existing telephone and broadband provider, or we can set you up with our own line rental and broadband package for £24.99 per month, including VAT.

It seems to state I can use an existing provider, ie BT or cable, and plug in your equipment; is this correct?
Yes, our Hotzone access point is fully compatible with any broadband provider, as long as you have a spare network port on your broadband router.

If so who supports my students; you or my broadband provider?
If you opt to take our broadband and line rental package, we can sort out any problem you may have. Otherwise, it is a little more complicated.
If your students cannot see the wireless network "Wifi Hotzone", then we should be your first point of call, after checking that the access point has power and its lights are flashing. If your computer can see the wireless network, then the problem most likely lies with your broadband provider.

How does the access point connect to my phone line?
If you take our broadband and line rental package, you will be issued with a combined broadband router and access point which connects directly to your telephone line. If you choose the access point only option, it connects directly to your broadband router via a spare ethernet (network) port. These are usually located on the back of the router.

Can students disconnect it and connect directly to my broadband?
If you dont take our broadband and line rental, then the hotspot connects directly into a free port on your router. This does mean that tenants could bypass the Wifi Hotzone network and connect directly to your router, but would not be able to roam wirelessly.
If you take our broadband and line rental package, then we supply a router and hotspot in one integrated unit. This stops your tenants from being able to bypass the Wifi Hotzone network.

Am I completely immune from any issues arising from my tenants downloading questionable material?
As everybody who has access to the system has a username and password, all downloads are traceable to individual accounts. As a landlord therefore you are not liable for anything your tenants download.

If I pay HornetPLUS for line rental, what happens if I leave the service?
If you take out line rental and broadband package, you agree to a minimum contract of 12 months. After that, as you pay for your access point separately, it is yours to keep. You are free to move to another line rental and broadband provider; our access point works with all broadband providers.

How will I be paid?
We will pay your revenue directly into a PayPal account nominated by you. This can then be set up to transfer into a bank account of your choosing.

How often do I get paid?
We will pay you once a quarter (every three months) for the total revenue accrued over the prevous three-month period.

How do I check the revenue that I have earned?
We will provide you with a username and password, which you can use to log into a website to check your running total at any time.
